OBITUARY Gerald Hanes Bullock September 5, 1937 – July 16, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Gerald H. Bullock was born in North Vernon, IN, on September 5, 1937, to Francis and Virena Bullock. Gerry was the youngest of 4 children. His three older sisters were Mildred, Helen, and Laurel.
Gerry grew up in North Vernon, IN and graduated in 1955 from North Vernon High School. Growing up, Gerry enjoyed playing football, baseball, racing cars, and working in his father’s hardware store – Bullock’s Hardware. He continued his love of racing and attended the running of the Indianapolis 500 over 50 consecutive times.
After high school, Gerry attended University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. He graduated college with a degree in business. While in college, Gerry was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity and met his wife, Yolanda Bullock.
They were married shortly after graduation on January 27, 1961. After school, Gerry remained a diehard UK basketball fan for the rest of his life. Once leaving college, Gerry was an active member of the US Army for 6 months and in the US Army reserves for 5 years.
He then worked for Ford Motor Company in various positions with his final position for Dealer Computer Services. Gerry enjoyed working for Ford Motor Company and stayed with them for 30 years. Gerry and Yolanda loved to travel.
Gerry even had an airplane, a single engine Mooney. They flew the airplane all over the US. Gerry and Yolanda had a daughter, Shawna.
Gerry loved taking Shawna up in the airplane, attending all her dance and piano recitals, and most of all – coaching the Kicks Angels soccer team that Shawna played on. Gerry coached the same team from 1982 until 1993 and they were a force to be reckoned with. Gerry was very dedicated to coaching the soccer team and taking them on many tournaments.
After Gerry retired from Ford Motor Company, he and Yolanda continued their love of traveling. This time they opted for cruising – some for up to 6 weeks at a time. They travelled all around Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, and around the continent of South America.
In his later years Gerry enjoyed watching his grandsons, Hunter and Ryder Powell, grow. He loved attending every soccer and baseball game his grandsons played. As coaching runs in the family, his daughter has followed in his footsteps and coaches both of her sons’ soccer teams.
Gerry could always be counted on to give her a little unsolicited coaching advice. Sadly, Gerry passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Yolanda Bullock; daughter, Shawna Powell; son-in-law, Greg Powell; and grandsons, Hunter and Ryder Powell.
He will always be loved as a husband, father, and grandfather.
