Gerald John Hanisch, 87, passed into eternal life on May 1, 2019 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Chicago, IL on May 21, 1931 to the late Oscar and Ida Hanisch. He served our country in the Army during the Korean War and then began a long career at Motorola.

A graveside service will be held 11:30 am, Friday, May 3, 2019 at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 10:00 to 11:00 am, Friday, May 3, 2019 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale. Left to cherish his memory are his ex-wife, Carol; daughter, Joy (Richard); son, Michael; granddaughters: Jori & Kerry; and his great-grand-dog, Soleil.

He enjoyed racing his TR-7, proudly served on the Lexington Village Condo Board Association in Schaumburg, IL and had many good times at concerts and festivals with his close friend, Syed. He was a foodie, loved watching Food Network and especially enjoyed visits from his family at Carillon Assisted Living and meals from Hwy 55 and City BBQ. In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his brother, Oscar “Frank” Hanisch.

The family wishes to thank Carillon Assisted Living of Knightdale, Wake Med Raleigh Hospital, UNC Burn Unit, Select Specialty Hospital, Raleigh Rehab and Kindred Hospice for such wonderful care in his last years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice, 136 Roxboro Road Oxford, NC 27565.
