OBITUARY Gerald Thomas Ruiz September 16, 1933 – January 7, 2019 Gerald Thomas Ruiz, age 85, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019. Mr. Ruiz was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Harahan, LA for 58 years. Beloved husband of 56 years to the late Lorraine Sanders Ruiz.

Selfless father of Maureen Scott (Lewis) and Daniel Ruiz (Cheryl). Grandfather of Christopher Schneller (Matt Mitter), Beau Scott (K’Senia), Brittany Ruiz (Craig Brodie) and Amanda Ruiz. Great grandfather of Shane Scott, Liam Scott and Sophia Scott.

Son of the late James Ruiz and Inez LeBlanc Ruiz. Brother of Deborah R. McWhorter, Norwood Ruiz and the late James D. Ruiz and Sylvia Guilbeau. Brother-in-law of Leah Oestringer and Linda D’Aquila.

Also survived by nieces and nephews. Mr. Ruiz was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Entergy.

He served in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul where he was a former treasurer. He was a longtime member of the D.D. Coffee Club of Harahan. Mr. Ruiz was a lifelong parishioner of St. Rita of Cascia and a member of the Silver Trotters.

He was awarded the St. Louis Medal for his service to St. Rita Parish. Mr. Ruiz was a very kind and gentle person and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives he touched. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd.

, in Metairie, LA on Thursday morning, January 10, 2019 beginning at 9:00 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home’s chapel. Interment will be in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Rita of Cascia Chapter, 7100 Jefferson Hwy.
