Mrs. Geraldine Donavan Birkhead passed away on June 17, 2018 at Taliaferro house, her family home. She was born April 2, 1928. She was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church “from birth,” she worked for years on the long range planning committee until a fall and bad health interfered.

She was a loving wife, mother, and friend, who loved Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Joseph Donovan of Selma and Martha Lee Taliaferro; her husband, Hooker Birkhead; and sister, Irene Riemer. Survivors include her son, Harding Birkhead, Sanford, NC; her daughters, Martha Nolin (Richard) and Margie Birkhead, Evergreen; one grandson, Micah Donovan Birkhead, Nashville, TN; three granddaughters, Shaina Boyette, Atlanta, GA; Ashley Adams, McCalla, AL; Amanda Nolin Sims, Selma, AL; great grandson, Gibson Massey Adams.

She graduated from Evergreen High School as Salutatorian in 1946, and from the University of Alabama in 1950. During her teaching career of almost 30 years, she taught at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines; the CP Center and Russell in Mobile; Lyeffion High, Nichburg School, Castleberry High School in Conecuh County. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Cope Keahey Funeral Home chapel with Rev Wayne Sharpe officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the family plot in the Old Historical Evergreen Cemetery with Cope Keahey Funeral Home directing.
