She met USAF Captain… Read More » Amandus Boyle in Folsom; they were wed in December, 1951 and moved to Maryland, where their son, Larry Boyle, was born. After her husband’s death in 1952, Geraldine returned to Folsom with Larry, and resumed her teaching career.

Geraldine was an avid sports fan, but especially enjoyed baseball. She could knowledgably converse with anyone about the last game – from Little League to the Giants and A’s – and particularly enjoyed her trips to the ballparks with her sisters. An adventurous spirit, she filled her summers off and retirement years with travel.

Accompanied by her sisters and friends, Geraldine traveled across the United States and overseas. She visited her son Larry in Alaska often enough to have seen more of Alaska than many locals. At home, she enjoyed her cabin at Lake Tahoe, providing a year-round getaway for her entire extended family for nearly fifty years.

Her mind was active and her memory sharp until the end; she was the auntie you wanted to watch Jeopardy with or have on your Trivial Pursuit team. Kind, patient, generous in spirit and genuinely interested in others, Geraldine kept in touch with friends acquired from childhood onward and remembered many of her students. Preceded in death by her father, mother, sister Monica Swingle, brother James Swingle, sister Patricia Young and brother-in-law William Young; Geraldine is survived by her son, Larry Boyle, his wife Alexandra and their daughter Lauren; sister Marguerite Swingle; sister-in-law Eleanor Swingle; seven nieces, six nephews, their spouses, children and grandchildren.

Geraldine had many friends of all ages and was loved and respected by those who knew her. She will be greatly missed. A devoted parishioner and supporter of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church all her life, Geraldine was a member of the choir for several decades.

Geraldine’s funeral Mass will be held in the historic St. John the Baptist Church on Sibley Street; the same church where she received her First Communion and was married. She will be laid to rest with her sisters in the family plot in the adjoining cemetery.
