Gertie Marie (Pender) Welch, passed away to be with our Lord and Savior on Mother’s Day Sunday May 12, 2019 at 2:40 p.m. She was born on Sunday March 31, 1918 in Rockbridge, Missouri to Coy and Opal (Chism) Pender. On April 4, 1936, at the age of 18, Gertie was united in marriage to Arthur Ray Welch in Souder, Missouri. Gertie and Arthur had their first son Kenneth Ray Welch on June 4, 1938 in Seymour, Missouri.

Their second son Dennis Keith Welch was born on November 30, 1951 at a Springfield, Missouri hospital. Gertie and Arthur were married over fifty years before his passing on September 4, 1987. They resided in Seymour all those years.

Gertie was a Christian believer and was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church of Seymour. Gertie worked a myriad of jobs to support her family, including working at the Seymour Apple House (Vollenweider Apple Orchard) and Head Orchard as a sorter. She cleaned offices and houses and did sewing repairs.

In her younger years she enjoyed riding her pony and singing and playing guitar with her father. She enjoyed sewing and planting a small garden each spring and tending to her flowers. She loved the outdoors and maintained several properties which she lawn-mowed into her seventies.

Gertie loved to see her family and have visitors and was blessed to have lived independently in her home until the age of 100. She was preceded in death by her parents Coy & Opal Pender, her husband Arthur Welch and a daughter-in-law Sharron Lawson Welch of Ash Grove, MO. Gertie is survived by two sons, Kenneth Welch of Ash Grove, MO and Dennis Welch and wife Sharon of Seymour, MO; grandsons, Brian Welch and wife Sheri of Ash Grove, MO, Craig Welch and wife Wendi of Kimberling City, MO, Dustin Welch and wife Dana of Springfield, MO; granddaughters Amy Scovel and husband Rick of Evans, CO and Dawn Welch of Keller, TX.

She is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren, Jessica Langley and husband Jared, Sara Grote and husband Ben, Paije O’Conner and husband Thomas, Tayler Havens and husband Adam, Adriana Albury and Tyndale Scovel as well as 6 great-great-grandchildren Armour Langley, Lincoln Langley, Evelin Grote, Axl Grote, Norah Havens and Jax Havens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Seymour Meals On Wheels program or the Kings Food Pantry and left in care of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour.
