Passed peacefully from this world on Saturday, November 3, 2018. Born on January 16, 1923, she enjoyed a long life surrounded by family, neighbors and friends. Gertrude recently celebrated the 67th anniversary of her marriage to Howard Monroe Lessman on October 19.

In addition to her loving husband, who cared for her at home as her health declined in recent months, she leaves behind her devoted son Craig Lessman (Ceci) of Woodland Hills, California: and daughters, Janice Lessman-Moss (Alan Moss) of Kent, Ohio, Lenore Guarnieri (Paul) of Wexford, and Eileen Lessman of Bradford Woods. She was so proud of her five grandchildren Carla Lessman Sheldon (Scott Sheldon), Graham and Jacob Maxwell, Francis (Rachel) and Ava Guarnieri, and great granddaughter, Genevieve Messman. She relished sharing news and participating in activities of their evolving lives.

Gertrude was born in Etna, PA and worked briefly at H. J. Heinz before her marriage in 1951. She was a dedicated housewife and mother to her four children, making her home in O’Hara Township where she continued to reside with her husband until the time of her death. She and Howard were active in the Aspinwall United Presbyterian Church for many years where she took great pleasure singing in the choir.

After Howard’s retirement from Mellon Bank in 1983, they enjoyed occasional travel adventures, and were active participants in AARP sponsored excursions. She was a committed volunteer at Harmarville Rehabilitation Center, being recognized with a Gold Star for 25 years of service, also giving generously of her time through philanthropic events coordinated by Mellon Bank retirees. Gertrude never failed to appreciate the simple things in life and her love, enthusiasm and good cheer will be missed by all who knew her.

No Visitation. Service and Interment private.
