Gilbert’s Obituary Gilbert Alcocer Sr. passed away peacefully on March 5, 2019 in Austin, Texas at the age of 73. Gilbert was born on March 15, 1945 in McDade, Texas to Gumecindo and Josefina Alcocer. He married his childhood sweetheart, Linda Reyna, in 1967.

Gilbert was always a hardworking man. As a child he worked in the cotton fields with his family, and as a young adult he worked for the railroad, Southside Market, and drove trucks across Texas. Gilbert was a warehouse manager for Brannen’s Inc. in Austin, Texas for 10+ when he retired.

Gilbert and Linda welcomed 2 children into their home, Gilbert Jr., and Marisa, as well as two beloved dogs, Ranger and Jupiter. His children remember him as a driven father who encouraged them to pursue their goals by working hard, loving hard, and most importantly to be strong individuals. Gilbert was a generous, funny, and dedicated individual who loved watching Westerns and WWE wrestling, talking to neighbors, and spending as much time as possible outdoors in the sunshine.

He was passionate about his family, his values, and most of all his independence. He is preceded in death by his parents Gumecindo and Josefina (Sanchez) Alcocer, brothers, Candelario Alcocer, Adam Alcocer, and sister Alicia Alcocer of Austin, Texas. Gilbert is survived by wife, Linda Reyna Alcocer; children, Gilbert Jr, wife Merrilyn, and Marisa Alcocer Chacko husband Ben Chacko; grandchildren Jacob Anthony, Alicia Raquel, and James Abraham.

Siblings; sisters, Augustina Segura of Dallas, Josephine Alcocer of Austin; brothers, John Alcocer, Luis Alcocer, Gumecindo and wife Gloria; several nieces and nephews, and special cousin Guadalupe Rangel, of Ft. Worth, Texas. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.

A celebration of Mass Christian burial will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday March 13, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment to follow at the Elgin Latin Cemetery. A reception will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hall.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gilbert’s life. The family would like to thank all medical staff at Texas Oncology Round Rock, as well as Hospice Austin, and Hospice Austin’s Christopher House for their warmth, and caring dedication. Gilbert considered them all friends.
