Obituary of Glenn Brockwell, Jr. Hillsborough – Glenn McClain Brockwell Jr. passed away peacefully on December 4, 2018, at his home with his family by his side. Glenn was born March 18, 1929 in Henderson County, NC to Ara and Glenn Brockwell Sr. Glenn (Shug) did not feel his story was worth sharing, but his family wholeheartedly disagrees. His life was one of honor to his family and our country through 30 years of service in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and 20 years as a Deputy Sheriff in Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Glenn married Allie Faye Swink (Cass, WV) on April 23, 1952. His 65 yearlong marriage to Faye rivaled any book and movie today. They met while each assisting at the funeral of Admiral Sherman in Washington D.C. and upon meeting her he knew instantly she was the one he wanted to marry.

After a trip to his beloved farm and meeting his family, she agreed to become a Brockwell. Together, they had four daughters: Gwen Snowden (George), Kathy Woody (Max), Brenda Hardt (Tim), and Sharon Reyes (Rich). He loved his daughters very much and cherished raising them and watching his grandchildren: Heather Snowden Hackler (Jake), Kaylie Hardt Ellison (Adam), Harrison Hardt (Katie), George Snowden III (Shelly), Brock Snowden, and Allie Woody and now his great grandchildren: Brinn Hardt, Trent Ellison, Andrew Ellison, Vivian Hackler, Oliver Ellison, Peyton Hardt, Charlie Hackler, Sullivan Hardt, and George Snowden IV and enjoyed watching them grow.

Glenn is also survived by his brother, Mike Brockwell, and his sister, Edna Berry. Glenn was by his beloved wife Faye’s side when she preceded him in death in April 2017. Losing his love and healing from a broken hip was a challenge for his heart and body.

Glenn and Faye are now back together to continue their love story. A feeling of gratitude emerges. We feel honored to have known him and blessed that his passing serves as a reminder to us that our time on this beautiful earth is limited and that we should seize the opportunity we have to forgive, share, explore, and love.

We can think of no greater way to honor our father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend than to live this way. We want to thank those who cared for him especially the Duke Regional ED Nurses, Nadine Wilkins, Duke Hospice caregivers, and support and love from Pleasant Green church members. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 2:00pm at Pleasnt Green United Methodists Church.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1:00pm in the church. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565; Duke Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, #101, Durham, NC 27704, or to Pleasant Green UMC, 3005 Pleasant Green Road, Durham, NC 27705.

The Brockwell family is under the care of Walker’s Funeral Home of Hillsborough.
