OBITUARY Gordon “Jack” Flavin June 15, 1926 – January 14, 2019 We lost a beloved Uncle, Entrepreneur, Storyteller and Historian with the passing of Gordon “Jack” Flavin 92, a lifelong resident of the Keene, NH area, and most recently a resident of Good Shepard Nursing Home, on Monday, January 14, 2019. His parents, Thomas and Lilly (Stromgren) Flavin, welcomed their son into the world on June 15, 1926 in Keene, NH. He grew up in Spofford and Keene, attending local schools.

He proudly served his country in World War 2 as a veteran of the United States Army. Jack started his long work history as a Newspaper carrier at the age of 11 as an article written in the Oct 2, 1948 paper noted. He would often tell the story of delivering papers in the Hurricane of 38, being sure to say proudly that all his papers were delivered that day.

He then worked his way up at the Sentinel to assistant in the stereotype department after the war. After leaving the Sentinel, Jack went on to own the United Cigar Store on Main St and later a Food Salvage Store. He also worked for several local business during his carrier including Romey’s Market and the Butcher Block.

Later he went on to work for the US Postal Service as a Highway Contractor for 30 years, retiring at the age of 87 Jack will be greatly missed by many in the area. He leaves behind his daughter, Joyce Vogler and her husband, Donald, of St Cloud FL; his grandson, Christopher Stewart of Munsonville; his granddaughter, Katie Stewart of Quincy MA, his good friends Gary Bardwell, Harry & Linda and former Son-In-Law Michael Stewart along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by three brothers, Thomas “Bill” Flavin, Allen Flavin and Gary Flavin; and four sisters, Margaret Goodrum, Katherine “Kitty” Spring, Beverly Budzik and Janet E. Brown.

In keeping with Jack’s wishes there will be no public services. Burial in the West Cemetery, Keene, will be private.
