Greg Wesley Sietsema September 17, 1963 – February 27, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Greg Wesley Sietsema, 55, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 27, 2019. A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Powersville United Methodist Church, 195 Powersville Road, Byron, with Dr. John Beck officiating. Greg Wesley Sietsema was born in Wallace, Idaho on September 17, 1963, the son of Richard Sietsema, where Richard was ateacher in the Shoshone County School System.
Shortly after birth, the family moved to Belgrade, Montana and then to Dillon, Montana where Greg began his educational journey. Greg graduated from Beaverhead County High School in Dillon where he was an active participant is wrestling and music. Following graduation, he attended the University of MontanaWestern in Dillon where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Art Education.
Greg’s emphasis in the visual arts focused on Pottery, Glass Blowing, and Blacksmithing. In addition to the visual arts, Greg also was a member of the Cantabiliers, which was a traveling show choir for the university. Following graduation, he accepted a teaching position in Bowie, Arizona, and then to Dallas, Texas, and then Charlotte, North Carolina.
Being disenchanted with public school education, Greg left the public school, moved to California, and tried his hand at several other avocations such as restaurant management, Boy Scout Leadership, and professional photography. During his stay in California, he married Rosalie Alina and was blessed with his son Rylan. Following a divorce, Greg and Rylan moved to Byron, Georgia to be near his parents.
In Georgia, he was a substitute teacher in the Houston CountySchool system, delivered pizza, and was a teacher for the educational consortium, “Compass”, where he tutored students with learning disabilities. It was in Georgia that he met and married the love of his life, Candy Lane, who had recently lost her husband and was a para pro at Centerville Elementary School. During his final years, Greg and Candy both found true happiness as they reared a blended family with two teenage boysand attended Powersville United Methodist Church.
Greg worked with his two teenage sons helping them with a lawn business and taking care of the repair mechanics at home. Greg’s supportive wife, Candy, encouraged him to take her on a cruise to the Bahamas and to follow other passions such as motorcycle riding and photography. Greg’s life was cut short on February 27, 2019 following a short illness.
He is survived by his wife, Candy, two teenage sons Rylan and stepson Nicholas, a stepdaughter, Rochelle Alina in California, a daughter, Cassie Sietsema in West Virginia, his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Richard Sietsema in Byron, Georgia, and a sister Dr. Vicki Begin in Wheatland, Wyoming. Rooks Funeral Home in Byron is in charge of arrangements.
