Obituary for Gregory Patrick Sheik Print Gregory Patrick Sheik, born November 20, 1954 in Ponca City, OK to Robert Eugene and Jennie Katherine (Katie) (Hamand) Simpson, wrote the final chapter in his Book of Life on Monday, January 28, 2019. Born in Newkirk, OK and later raised in Carmen, OK. Greg was the oldest of four boys and was entrusted from an early age to watch over Eric, Vincent and Max to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

This responsibility was a foundation of his character, and certainly has shown throughout his life as a brother, husband to Janet, father to Cody and Cara, grandfather to Joplin, Memphis, and Aurora, and finally during his career with the Department of Corrections and Oklahoma Corporation Commission. Greg had an inquisitive mind, a quiet and keen sense of humor, a passionate love of music and playing musical instruments, and loved the occasional snort of nice Bourbon. In his younger years, he loved to hunt, fish, and camp.

He was active in Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Later in life, Greg shared his love of the outdoors by serving as Scoutmaster to Troop 330 and was recognized for his service in the Order of the Arrow by receiving the Silver Beaver Medal. Greg was always serving and donating his time to others wherever he could, serving on the Carmen City Council and as Mayor.

Greg, better known as “Poppi” to his grandchildren, loved spending time with them watching Saturday morning cartoons, especially Tom and Jerry, and eating pancakes. If you were to ask him on any given day, “What’s your favorite afternoon activity? ”, he’d probably without question respond, “having popsicles with the grandkids”.

Greg is survived by his wife Janet Sheik of Carmen; son Cody and family, Katie and Aurora Sheik (Duluth, MN); daughter Cara and family, Nick, Joplin and Memphis Bradt (Alva, OK); Brothers, Eric Sheik and wife Cathy (Carmen, OK); Vincent Sheik and Janie (Blanchard, OK); Max Sheik and wife Kim (Las Cruces, NM); Uncle, Kenny Sheik and wife Janet (Newkirk, OK; step mother, Helen Sheik (Weatherford, OK), step Grandmother Violet Hamand (Enid, OK); and numerous family and friends. The family wishes to thank with deep and sincere appreciation all who have helped Greg on his journey with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Disease. Most notably Dr.’s Sarah Matousek and Brian Whitson and their great staff, the wonderful people at Bass Pavilion LTAC, Integris Home Health, and Hospice Circle of Love.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Carmen Memorial Park fund with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian. Condolences can be made at ladusauevans.com. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
