Guy Edward Stringham, 84, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2018 in Mesquite, NV, after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Born in Bingham Canyon, Utah on August 9, 1934, Guy was the first of 4 children born to Eda May Larsen and Lawrence Edward Stringham. Growing up, he enjoyed family, school, and playing football and basketball at Murray High School.

Guy served 10 years in the US Air Force, serving in Japan; New York, where he met and married his first wife, Nancy Sunderland; France, where his first 2 children were born; California; and Washington D.C., where he was part of the Air Force One flight crew. After earning a degree in history from BYU in 1964, Guy and his family moved to Alaska where he spent the next 36 years as a beloved educator and political activist who was very involved in the AFLCIO, NEA, DEA, and Democratic Party. An avid people person, he made friends wherever he went, never forgot a name, and strangers were just friends he hadn’t yet met.

Guy met and married the love of his life, Marie Wheeler, in Kotzebue, Alaska, and together they lived a life full of adventure fishing, traveling, cruising, & attending cultural events such as stage musicals. Guy was a creative soul and enjoyed leatherworking, as well as writing family history. But, above all, Guy’s great love and joy was his family.

He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and never missed a opportunity to attend their concerts, sporting events, church activities, or to brag about them. He is survived by his wife Marie, children Belinda (Craig) Torbenson, Stephan (Paula Stringham, Jann Hawkins, and Katie Hilker, 13 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 1 brother, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is loved beyond measure and will be missed.
