After a courageous and inspiring ten month battle with leukemia, Guy P. Williams, Jr. of New Bern, North Carolina died on December 21, 2018, surrounded by family in his favorite room in his home. Guy was born on July 7, 1949, in Edenton, North Carolina to Guy P. Williams, Sr. and Virginia Lee Williams. On July 5, 1969, Guy married the love of his life and best friend, Betty Mizelle of Windsor, North Carolina, and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Army.

After two and one-half years in the Army, Guy embarked on a long and remarkable banking career across several cities in eastern North Carolina. Guy loved banking because it allowed him to form long-lasting relationships while helping people and businesses with their financial needs. Guy graduated from Wayne Community College in 1969 and from The Graduate School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University in 1986.

When not working with customers, Guy loved spending time with his family, playing golf with his buddies in New Bern, and vacationing at the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Guy was justifiably proud of his grilling skills and, on multiple occasions, insisted on grilling in the pouring rain in order to save the occasion. Guy was a member of Garber United Methodist Church, a longtime Rotarian, and a member of Eureka Masonic Lodge in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

Guy was a professional auctioneer and frequently donated his time and services to charitable organizations. Guy is survived by his wife, Betty, and two sons, Kevin (Aimee) Williams of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Chad (Melissa) Williams of Kill Devil Hills. Guy and Betty have five grandchildren – Sydney, Ethan, Trevor, Mason and Brody.

Guy is also survived by his mother, Virginia, of Nashville, North Carolina, and his brother, Terry (Jane) Williams of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Guy was preceded in death by his father, Guy P. Williams, Sr. A memorial service for Guy will be conducted on Friday, December 28, 2018, at Garber United Methodist Church in New Bern, North Carolina, at 1:00 p.m., by The Reverend David Banks and The Reverend Terry M. Williams. A reception will follow at the church.
