H. Odell LaGrone, 86, of Amarillo passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. Memorial services will be at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Amarillo with Dr. Howard K. Batson, officiating. Private interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Odell LaGrone was born on May 10, 1932 in Comanche County, Texas to Jake and Lillie Tom Davis LaGrone. He graduated from Clarendon High School in 1950 and attended Commonwealth College of Science in Houston.

He married Betty Jane Thompson on July 8, 1950 in Clovis, NM. Odell owned LaGrone Monument Company for many years and was part owner in LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Canyon. He also owned and operated Memory Gardens Cemetery.

He was always working and because he loved carpentry, he owned and maintained many rent houses in Canyon. Odell was a member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo and loved being a part of the Barnabas Sunday School Class. He had a passion for playing golf and was a longtime member of the Canyon Country Club.

He enjoyed traveling, especially to golf tournaments, and he also enjoyed spending time in his shop building things. His greatest joy was his grandchildren who lovingly called him Pappaw. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Jerry LaGrone and Brack LaGrone, three sisters, Nancy LaGrone, Billie Jo Johnson, and Laura Hill, and one grandson, Erik LaGrone.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Betty, of the home; four children, Dr. Michael O. LaGrone and wife, Vicki, Ginger Tucker and husband, Tommy, Garre LaGrone and wife, Brenda, all of Amarillo, and Judy Haney and husband, Bob of Canyon; eleven grandchildren, Amy Kay Mode and husband, Marvin, Chuck Tucker and wife, Paige, Hilleary Drake and husband, Jay, Whitney Walden and husband, Thomas, Britany Schmidt and husband, Randy, Matt LaGrone and girlfriend, Meagan Luce, Malerie Johnston and husband, Bobby, Mark LaGrone, Stephen Scott and wife, Dennise, Kimberly Miller and husband, Daniel, and Laura Haney; twenty-one great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; three siblings, Tommy LaGrone and wife, Louise, Cora LaGrone, and Sam LaGrone, all of Amarillo; and many nieces and nephews that he dearly loved. The family suggests memorials be to Heal the City, 609 S. Carolina St., Amarillo, Texas 79106.
