Funeral services for Harold H. Houg, age 87, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Vicar Josh Blair will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by local veterans organizations.

Interment will be at First Lutheran Cemetery in Glenville. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, February 8 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Online condolences are welcome at www.

bayviewfuneral.com. Harold died Sunday, February 3, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Community. Harold Henry Houg was born on May 5, 1931 in Albert Lea, the son of Merton and Lila (Towne) Houg.

A life-long resident of rural Glenville, Harold attended school in Glenville through 8th grade and then graduated from Albert Lea High School. Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. On September 27, 1958, Harold was united in marriage to Nancy Jensen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

The couple farmed for many years. Harold was a member of First Lutheran Church of Glenville. He was also a member of American Legion Post 264, NRA, Owatonna Gun Club, American Trapshooting Association, and Glenville Snowriders.

He served for 10 years as the Freeman Township Clerk. Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapshooting, bowling, community baseball, city league basketball, and watching sports and the western channel on TV. He especially loved watching his grandchildren play sports.

Harold is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Houg; daughters, Debbie Holmen (Mike Breuer) and Darcy Knudson (Ron); son, Mark Houg; grandchildren, Emily Oman (Justin), Ellie Holmen (Brian Harrison), Derek Lau (Tricia Gregerson), Ashley Lau, Andrew Lau (Colleen Grassley), and David Knudson; great-grandchildren, Shay Oman, Brandtley Lau, Cora Lau, and Ziek Knudson; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews; and his best friend of 80 years, Jake Loper. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Merton and Lila; brothers, Kenneth Houg, Myron Houg, and Herbert Houg; father and mother-in-law, John and Anna Jensen; and many brothers-in law and sisters-in-law.
