Harold Melvin Edwards , September 22, 1953 — March 06, 2019

Harold Melvin Edwards, 65, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Duke Medical Center in Durham surrounded by his family. Harold was born in Cumberland County on September 22, 1953 and was the son of the late Lorena Best Edwards. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 37 years of service.

His first and favorite occupation, however, was a farmer, and many of his happiest times were spent atop his tractor on the family farm. Along with his wife, Harold owned and operated Elroy Farms in the Elroy Community where he would often be found sitting in his chair or taking care of his customers. Harold’s passion was golf and could be found playing at Walnut Creek Country Club whenever possible.

If it was a beautiful day, he enjoyed being on the links sharing shots and laughter with many of his friends. Most importantly to Harold was his family and he always enjoyed their family trips to Cape Hatteras. Harold worked so hard to make sure his wife and children were well taken care of.

He was the best papa who will be truly missed. A service to celebrate Harold’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at New Hope Friends Church with Bill Garner officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the family life center and other times at his home.

Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2019 at New Hope Friends Cemetery. Harold is survived by his wife of 26 years, Pam Grant Edwards; children, Bryan Twiggs, Heather Lawrence, Kelly Dawson, Elizabeth Maples and Jordan Edwards; grandchildren, Emery-Kate, Brodie Carter, Eden-Kole and Emmett; brother, Milo Edwards; nephew, Matthew Edwards; and his beloved dog, Sadie. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his niece, Allison Ellis.
