Obituary for Harris George Carter, Jr. FORT WORTH – Harris G. Carter, Jr., 83, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2018. Memorials: May be made to the North Texas Food Bank and Mission.

Harris was born Dec. 22, 1934, in McAllen Texas. Soon after, his parents Harris G. Carter, Sr., and Beulah Tickle Carter moved the family to a sheep ranch known as “the place” west of San Angelo, Texas.

Life on the depression era ranch with only coal oil lamps for reading light and resultant chores shaped Harris’ young life. Harris received his undergraduate degree in Physics from Texas Tech University and a Masters degree from TCU. Harris went to work at Convair Aerospace in Fort Worth.

He remained with the company 50 years as it transitioned to General Dynamics and finally Lockheed Martin. Harris played a pivotal roll as a materials research scientist in the development of many projects vital to our nation’s defense. His passion for literature, poetry, archaeology and human history was contagious.

Survivors: Wife, Gloria; sister, Suzanne Hahn; children, David Carter and wife, Cynthia, Dannyjo Carter and wife, Susie, Aimee Carter Reason and husband, Eddie Reason and Audrey Carter; grandchildren, Sarah Anne, Alexander and Tristin; nephew, Dale Hahn; niece, Pam Hahn Butler; and many other loving family members including grandnephews, grand nieces and cousins.
