Harry K. Show, 99, of Berrien Springs, passed to his rest at Woodland Terrace of Longmeadow in Niles, Michigan, on Monday, October 29, 2018. Harry was born April 28, 1919, in Alton, Illinois, to Luther D. Show and Golda C. (Ballard) Show. Harry graduated from Bunker Hill, Illinois, high school in 1937.

From 1939 to 1941 he attended Emmanuel Missionary College (EMC, now Andrews University) majoring in physics. In January 1942 he married Ruth E. Sawyer and in December 1942 he was… Read More » inducted into the United States Army, serving as a dental laboratory technician making false teeth and gold crowns. Harry was honorably discharged in March of 1946.

After discharge from the army, Harry worked with his father at Duncan Foundry in Alton. In 1947 he became a colporteur in the Illinois Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, selling Christian books and literature from door to door. In March of 1950 he was called to be the publishing secretary for the Malayan Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists, located in Singapore.

Part of his responsibilities involved extensive travel throughout the Malayan Union, including Siam (Thailand), Indo-China (Vietnam), Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, Borneo, and Sarawak. In August 1955 Harry moved his family to Berrien Springs to complete his college education at EMC. Since the field of physics had advanced so far since he had been in college, he decided to obtain his degree in business, graduating in 1958.

During this time he accepted the position of assistant dean of men at EMC, living in Birch Hall with his family. In 1960 he completed a Masters of Business Administration degree at Michigan State University. From 1960 to 1962 Harry taught accounting and finance classes at EMC and in 1962 became the assistant business manager.

In 1973 he became the first internal auditor for Andrews University. Harry retired in 1983. Since that time until one year before his death, he volunteered at Neighbor to Neighbor.

For 34 years he repaired furniture, small appliances, vacuum cleaners, typewriters, sewing machines and miscellaneous items. He also served as treasurer and chairman of the finance committee. Harry is survived by his brother, Larry Show of Maryland; brother-in-law, Harry Baldwin of North Carolina; son, Richard (Dorothy) Show of Berrien Springs; daughter-in-law, Melanie Show of Nebraska; three grandchildren: Daniel (Janine) Show of Wisconsin, Deanna (Olivier) Charrière of Connecticut, and Douglas (Joella) Show of Wisconsin; three great-grandsons: Christopher, Jonathan, and Josian; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 62 years, Ruth Show; son, David Show; sisters, Rosie Stagg and Marian Waltz. A memorial service will be held in Pioneer Memorial Church on Sunday, November 18, 2018, at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Neighbor to Neighbor, 9147 Old US Highway 31, Berrien Springs, MI, 49103, or charity of your choice.
