WALL, Harry M. Sr., “Professional Volunteer” and “Candyman”, died on August 31, 2018 at the age of 87. Harry was born on June 22, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Sadie (Spears) Wall; and brothers, Howard and Wayne.

Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Shirley Ann; children, Mack Jr (Cheryl), Tammy, Dennis (Mary), Michael (Michele), Daniel (Kim) Mckinnon, and Janice Carpenter; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; brothers, Earl and Robert; sister, Mary; and many nephews and nieces. At age 15, he enlisted in the 1st Bn, 147th Inf Regit until at age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy, serving on the USS Worcester, USS Briareu, and USS Sabine as a Boilerman. At the age of 21, he enlisted in the USAF, serving with the 42nd Bomber Wing and 3918 AB wing.

He graduated from University of Maryland and Salmon P. Chase College. He retired in 1986 from DESC, with 31 yrs service. He began his volunteer career with the DAV in Cincinnati in June 1952.

Over the years he accumulated many thousands of hours of service with over 34 different organizations, including The USAF museum, USAF Hall of Fame, Hospice of Dayton, VA Medical Center, Gospel Mission, and the City of Kettering. He always had sweet treats for everyone. He was a faithful member of the Church of the Cross UMC, Kettering, and the American Legion Post #578, Kettering Alpha Lodge 729, and VFW Post 9927.

He leaves his beloved wife, Shirley Ann, who showed him what it meant to really be appreciated and loved. If he could, he would cast a new star in heaven so the world could see her goodness. He will miss her so much until they meet again in the presence of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, September 6, 2018 also at the funeral home. Internment with military honors at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Dayton or Blue Star Mothers #3. The family would like to express deep appreciation to the Staff of the VAMC Hospice unit, for their loving and gentle care of Harry in his last weeks of life. You are all truly Angels!
