On October 30, 2018; Hassell Golden Vass, SSG, born July 10, 1922, in Carroll, County, VA. After 18 years on the farm, he moved to Baltimore, MD to work at Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company. He was drafted in December 1942 and went to Ft.

Meade, MD staging area, then transferred to Ft. Bliss, TX for basic training. In April 1943 he joined the 10th Mtn.

Div. as a second cook, later promoted to Mess Sergeant. He was wounded on Mt.

Pizzo DiCampiano and spent six months in the hospital and convalescing. Receiving honorable discharge Sept. 24, 1945 at Camp Pickett, VA his medals include: Good Conduct, Expert Rifleman, Combat Infantry, Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

He was married to the Late Iva Rakes for 56 years. They have one daughter Pamela Pikla, One grandson the late John H. Ballman and three great grand children Taylor and Zachery Ballman and Brittany Barys. He is also survived by four great great grandsons Nicholas, Matthew, Ayden and Caleb.

Brother of the Late Lester Vass. His occupation was in sales. Retired after 25 years of service with Wynn Oil Company.

Friends may call at family owned Bruzdzinski Funeral Home P. A. at 1407 Old Eastern Avenue, Es at route 702 (beltway exit 36) on Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service on Monday at 11 am in Middle River Baptist Church 610 Middle River Road Middle River, Maryland 21220. Entombment Gardens of Faith Cemetery.
