Hayden’s Obituary Hayden Staggs, 16, Surrey, ND, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 27, 2019, in Surrey. Hayden Richard Staggs was born March 27, 2003, the son of Ryan and Alyssa (Melin) Staggs, in Minot, ND. He was raised and educated in Surrey and was currently in his sophomore year at Surrey High School where he was a member of the varsity football team, basketball team and track & field team.

He recently earned All Region Honors in football. He also played baseball until his seventh-grade year. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Surrey.

Hayden had a passion for sports, especially football. He was a role model who enjoyed mentoring the younger athletes in the sports that he loved. He had dreams of coaching the younger kids in football, basketball and track.

Hayden loved helping people. If he was asked to help someone in need, he did and enjoyed doing a lot of the heavy lifting. He was your typical teen who liked sleeping, eating, playing video games, listening to music, hunting, and hanging out with his many friends, especially his girlfriend, Zoe.

He loved his big sister who was one of his best friends and his baby brother who he was a protector to. Hayden hated to dress up, for this reason, please feel free to come dressed in jeans, blue, whatever you feel comfortable in. His loving family includes: mother and father, Alyssa and Ryan, Surrey; sister, Rieley (17) ; brother, Paxton (2), maternal grandparents, Shelly (Scott) Parish, Surrey, and Rick Melin, Minot; paternal grandparents, Pamela Olson, Minot, and Debbie Staggs, Indianapolis, IN; maternal great-grandparents, Jack and Darlene Dickman; and Lorraine Melin; aunts and uncles, Lindsay (Ryan) Sluder, Trisha (Justin) Braaten, Jason Staggs, Shannon (Doug) Scott, Amanda (Matt) Hawkins, Lindsay (Jarryd) Bohl, Joshua (Ty) Olson; cousins, Gaige, Jamison, Maddox, Danielle, Ally, Alexander, Alexia, Ollie, Ami, Lux, and Leo.

Hayden was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Rick Staggs; and maternal great-grandfather, Kenneth Melin. Funeral: Saturday, May 4, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Surrey High School, Surrey. Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, Surrey. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Surrey Mustangs Boosters or Hope Lutheran Church, Surrey.
