Obituary for Hazel A. Dykstra Mrs. Hazel Ann Dykstra, age 95, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018 in Grand Haven, Michigan. She was born in Muskegon, Michigan to John and Dena (Weiden) Westra on October 25, 1923. Hazel lived most of her life in Muskegon, graduating from Muskegon High School in 1941.

She married Peter Dykstra, the love of her life, on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1946. Hazel was employed as a bookkeeper for many years at Steindler Paper Company and then subsequently was the bookkeeper for the family business, Dykstra Carpet Company from 1959 – 1978. She attended Berean Church for many years.

In particular, Hazel loved spending time with her husband Pete, to whom she was married for 53 years. She also enjoyed summers at her cottage in Pentwater, time with her family, and laughing with her many friends. She had a contagious laugh and a wit that could light up a room.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Yerkie of Spring Lake; her son, Timothy (Rosuara) Dykstra of Williamburg, VA; four grandchildren, Joy Yerkie, Matthew (Katherine) Dykstra, Leah Dykstra, and Melissa (Scott) Germansky; and one great-grandson, Cameron Germansky. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter; and son-in-law, David Yerkie. Her family would like to thank the staff at Lakeshore Assisted Living Homes in Grand Haven and a special caregiver, Lynette Rosnowski for the wonderful care she received in her courageous battle against Alzheimer’s.

According to her family’s wishes, SERVICES for Hazel will be private. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Fremont, Michigan. Arrangements by The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100.
