Hazel Gauer passed on April 16, 2018 at Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center. She was born April 28, 1927 in Akron to Della (Stanfill) and Hiram Baird. She graduated from West High School and attended Buchtel College.

She met her husband, Bill, at Springfield Lake Roller Rink. They married July 22, 1950. Together they took a small four-person machine shop and grew it to a successful business, Gauer Mold and Machine.

They were recognized for making significant contributions to the plastics industry and named to the Pioneers Club of the Society of the Plastics Industry. Hazel retired at the age of 81. She spent the past ten years being her husband’s caregiver.

Hazel is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James. She is survived by her husband, William; daughter, Linda; her beloved son-in-law, Sam McCoy; and her cherished grandchildren, Lena and Wilson. Interment has taken place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

Family and friends who wish to share condolences and memories are invited to an open house April 28 from 3:00 to 5:00 at Akron Woman’s City Club, 732 W. Exchange Street, Akron.
