Helen L. Mahan, 93, of Arnold passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 22, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 30, 1925 in New Kensington, to the late John and Elizabeth Vogel Lohr.
She graduated from Arnold High School in 1943 and was a proud member of the Arnold High School marching band, playing the French Horn. She worked at the bank in Arnold and the offices at the glass house in Arnold. She married her husband, Samuel Mahan, in 1950.
She spent her years raising a family, baking her delicious cookies, and making her homemade candy, sharing it all with her family and friend. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to all 50 states and many European Countries. The church was always a large part of her life.
She was raised at Calvary Lutheran Church and followed her husband to the Methodist Church after their marriage. Through the years she was a Sunday school teacher and member, Bible school music director, a member of the Arnold United Methodist Women Group, Faholo class, choir and memorial committee, and an organist. In recent years she was a member of Arnold United Methodist Sewing Club where she stuffed memory bears for hospice and a member of Braeburn United Methodist Women’s Group where she enjoyed a wonderful fellowship.
Her deep faith in God was always with her, even after her last breath. Helen is survived by her daughter, Nancy Mahan of Marietta, Ohio; her son, Bruce (Kathy) Mahan of Arnold; her son Timothy (Dawna) Mahan of Lower Burrell; her four grandchildren, Melissa (Steven) Massari of New Jersey, Beth Mahan of Texas, and Haley and Scott Mahan of Lower Burrell; her two great-grandchildren, Jackson Massari and Brooklyn Massari, and many special nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Mahan; brother, William (Mary) Lohr; Isabelle (Ralph) Buckles, Dorothy (Goud) Smith, and Janet (Leyden) Seigart.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to send any donations to Arnold United Methodist Church, 1801 Leishman Avenue, Arnold. A deep heartfelt thank you to her church family, friends, and Harmar Village 2nd Floor nursing and nurses aides, Allegheny Valley inpatient 2nd floor therapy, and Grane Hospice. You were all wonderful!
Visitation will be Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD. , 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where a service will be held by her pastor, Sharon Waltenbaugh, on Friday, October 26 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
