Helen Starr Reed, 89, of Richmond, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on February 1, 2019. Helen was born on April 10, 1929, in Steubenville, Ohio, to Ruth V. and Harry E. Starr. She was a member of Steubenville High School, class of 1946, and attended The Ohio State University where she met her best friend and husband Bill Reed.
Helen was a homemaker and had been employed as a personnel specialist with Dawson Personnel Service in Columbus. Helen and Bill celebrated 70 years of marriage on September 5, 2018. Helen was a member of Starkdale Presbyterian Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, a fifty-plus year member of Wintersville Women’s Club, on the board of directors at Martha Manor, and a charter member of the Richmond Lioness Club.
Helen enjoyed most winters in Florida as well as traveling extensively across the country in her motorhome with her husband. Helen’s kind and outgoing nature turned every stranger into a friend as it was her mission in life to take care of those around her, especially her extensive family, who brought her immeasurable pride and joy. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth V. (Cox) Starr and Harry E. Starr, an infant sister, and an infant son.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; her friend and sister-in-law Ruth Burns; dear cousin Harry (Barabara) Williams; sons William Reed II, Dr. Mark Reed (Kim), and Richard Reed (Rhonda); grandchildren William Reed III, John Reed, Sarah Reed, Samuel Reed, Benjamin Reed, Emily Lohrer (Sean), Heather Reed, Megan King (Matthew), MaryAnne Reed (Zachariah Zdinak), Matthew Reed (Heather Megyesi), and Allison Reed; great-grandchildren Kaelan, Kenneth, Calvin, and Jacqulin; countless nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces; her beloved cat, Lucy; and many friends. Additionally, the family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to the in-home nurses from Charity Hospice for their selfless and kind care of Helen over the past few weeks. Friends and family will be received on Monday from 4-7 PM at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 685 Canton Rd.
Wintersville. Additional visitation at Starkdale United Presbyterian Church in Wintersville on Tuesday from 10AM until celebration service of Helen’s life at 11 AM with Rev. Carl Moore officiating.
