Helen S. Zellers, 91, formerly of Seybertown and East Brady, died peacefully Saturday, January 12, 2019 at McKinley Health Center in Brookville. Born January 9, 1928 in Ridgway, PA, she was the only child of John W. and Helen F. (Swift) Zurfluh. Helen graduated from Ridgway High School in 1945 and Indiana State Teachers College in 1949.

She began teaching in 1949 for East Brady Borough Schools as their first elementary and secondary music teacher. After East Brady Schools became part of Armstrong School District, she retired from there in 1985. Helen then became the Handbell Choir Director for St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kittanning until she retired December 31, 1995.

For many years, she also directed the East Brady Community Choir. She was an animal lover and had many pets over the years. Helen also enjoyed the Allegheny River, traveling, golfing, and was a member of Ridgeview/St. Jude Golf Club.

Surviving is her daughter, Linda Shofestall and husband Daniel of Summerville, and her son; Larry Zellers and wife Ann of Burgettstown. Also surviving are 2 Grandchildren; Ricky Simpson and wife Tori, and Chris Shofestall. 3 Great Grandchildren; Jarod, Abby and Rya Simpson.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her former husband; Val Zellers. Friends of Helen S. Zellers will be received from 2:00-5:00 PM Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Buechele Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. 707 Kellys Way, East Brady, PA 16028 Funeral Services for Helen S. Zellers will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the funeral home with Rev. Raymond Eichler, officiating.
