Obituary for Henrietta Echterling Henrietta C. Echterling passed away peacefully with loving family on Saturday, September 29, 2018. She was born on September 19, 1921 in Crown Point, to Joseph and Josephine Krieter. She was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Church in Merrillville, IN where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Sodality and Funeral Choir.
On October 29, 1949 she married Raymond Echterling who preceded her in death in 2004. She was also preceded in death by son, Jerard; grandson, Gabriel; her parents; 4 brothers and 8 sisters. She is survived by daughters: Judith (Dale) Walsh, Josephine (Robert) Huish and Jennifer (Andrew) Garside; sons: Joseph (Debra) Echterling and John Echterling; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; sister, Beatrice (late Joseph) Dobes; brother, Charles (Paula) Krieter and many nieces and nephews.
Henrietta volunteered as a pink lady at Methodist Southlake Hospital in Merrillville for over 20 years. She was known for her delicious apple slices, elderberry jelly, nut rolls, and beautiful flower garden. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She loved to play pinochle, Skip-bo, knit and crochet. She made friends wherever she was and will be missed by those whose lives she touched. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft St., Merrillville, IN.
Prayer service at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, October 8, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Consolation Church (8303 Taft St. Merrillville, IN) with visitation at the church from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Chesterton Manor for the care and compassion shown to Henrietta. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made in her name to Our Lady of Consolation Church, 8303 Taft St. Merrillville, IN 46410 or Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901. The Dementia Society is a 501 (C) (3) nonprofit organization.
