Obituary for Henry Harold Sidor On Wednesday, June 27, Henry (Hank) Sidor began the next phase of his journey with God. Born Henry Harold Sidor on October 16, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the youngest of four children (all boys) born to Joseph and Josephine (Cislo) Sidor. He was a devout Catholic, a DIYer and a descendant of Polish/Austrian immigrants.
He believed in family and country. Once a Marine, always a Marine! Loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, Marine, you name it and that was Hank.
He was a tinkerer, a doer. Rarely would you find Hank just sitting around. There was always something that needed to be fixed and his favorite “tool” was duct tape.
Hank is preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret (who passed away May 10, 2018). He is survived by his five children and their spouses, Chuck (Connie), Rick (Phyllis), Lori Ann, Mary Jo (Steve) and Kathleen (David); a son-in-law and his spouse, Bob (Mary); 16 grandchildren and their spouses – yes, I’m naming them all – Jeffrey (Christine), Victoria (Dan), Krystina (Jesse), Rebecca, Katrina (Adam), Paul, Kerri (Mark), Caitlyn (Dave), Melissa, Zachary, Ashley, Jackleen (Matthew), Kendyl (Matt), Andrew, Elizabeth and Caroline; and ten great grandchildren – yes, naming all of them, too – Payton, Breanna, Jacob, Ariel, Isabel, Madelyn, Sebastian, London, Hadwin and Liam plus one “coming soon”. Not only was he predeceased in death by his wife, but also two daughters, Kathrine and Diane; and one grandson, Ryan.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 5:00 – 9:00pm at O’Brien-Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Ave, Novi, Michigan, with a rosary at 7:00pm. He will lie in-state at Holy Family Catholic Church, 24505 Meadowbrook Rd, Novi, Michigan the following day on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 10:00am, followed by a funeral service celebrating his life at 10:30am. Given Hank’s service (and subsequent injuries while) in the United States Marine Corp, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Semper Fi Fund or Wounded Warrior Project, for “there are no ex-Marines or former Marines, simply Marines in different uniforms and in different phases of life”.
