Herbert Alphonse Beyer, 88, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away at his residence in Breckenridge on Thursday, July 26, 2018. The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Breckenridge. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge.

Father Joseph Backowski will be officiating. The burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Breckenridge. Herb Beyer was born on the family farm east of Brushvale, MN, on February 27, 1930, to Alvin and Rose (Conzemius) Beyer, the third of seven children.

He attended country school there and later, graduated from Breckenridge High School. Herb grew up working on the farm until he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War. Upon returning home, he resumed farming with his dad and later, his brother, Bob.

In 1964, he bought a farmstead south of Everdell, MN, in Sunnyside Township. There he continued to farm, raising dairy and beef cattle. In 1967, he was united in marriage to Marie Bach of Breckenridge.

They made their home on the farm and were blessed with three children. In 1990, they moved to Breckenridge where they have since resided. Dad enjoyed being outdoors, he loved hunting and fishing, and cherished spending time with his family.

He truly loved watching his grandchildren grow up and especially enjoyed attending their many sporting and school events. He and mom were never apart; they went on many casino trips and camping adventures throughout the years. Dad was a quiet man who deeply appreciated his family and his career in farming.

His hard work and sacrifices for his family will always be remembered. He continued to help with planting and harvest until his death, and he took great pride in seeing the farm carry on. Herb will be greatly missed by his wife of 51 years, Marie (Bach) Beyer; his children, Patty (Tom) Kloster of Breckenridge and Mark (Jodi) Beyer of Breckenridge; his grandchildren, Seth Klostreich, Alison Beyer, Nicholas Beyer, and Justin Beyer; his sister, Jo Haire of Ottertail, MN.

Herb was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Beyer; his parents, Alvin and Rose (Conzemius) Beyer; his siblings, Jim Beyer, Don Beyer, Bob Beyer, Delores Fritz, and Marlene Malstrom.
