Herbert Lewis Davis Sr , October 31, 1938 — November 05, 2018

DAVIS, Sr., Herbert Lewis, age 80, departed this life November 5, 2018. He was born October 31, 1938 in Maysville, Kentucky to Corinthia White and Clarence Clark. Herbert was a veteran of the U. S. Navy; and following leaving the armed forces, for many years he served as a volunteer at the V. A. Hospital.

He retired from the City of Dayton after 27 years of service. Herbert was a faithful member of Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church where he served as a Steward and Watchman. Through the church, he also participated in the Hunger and Van Ministries.

He was an avid reader, loved children and always appreciated a good joke. He spent his retirement years fishing, playing cards and dominoes with friends. He was always willing to help others.

Herbert was married for 53 years to his loving wife, Ermaline. They raised three adoring children, Jeffery (Barbara) McMillian, Herbert Davis, Jr. and Yvonne (Sean) Murray. Preceded in death by his mother, father and a sister.

Herbert leaves to cherish his memory sisters, Frances Harbor, Bonnie (Kenneth) Hayes; brother, Clarence Clark; sisters-in-law, Mattie Rankin, Elizabeth Fulcher, Hazelle Barnes, Dorothy Miller; aunts, Fannie Oliver, Viola Jackson, Mary Brown. Left to honor and remember Herbert’s love are grandchildren, Vanessa and Tyeisha McMillian, Brandon, Lewis and Kennedi Davis, Sean II and Noelle Murray; great grandchildren, DeAllen and Tylan Turner, Justin Branham; a host of nieces, nephews, devoted friends and loving church family. He was a great man who will be greatly missed.

Funeral service will be held 12 noon Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church, 3620 Shiloh Springs Rd. Visitation 9 am-12 pm. Family will receive friends 11 am-12 pm.

Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
