Horace Pope Holden, Sr. 85, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019. Born in Atlanta, GA, August 28, 1933, he was the son of the late Frank Alexander and Grace Pope Holden. Horace founded The Chattahoochee Camp and School in Roswell in 1961 which served thousands of Alantans over its 30 plus years of operation.

He also co-founded the Georgia Canoe Association, and the Nantahala Outdoor Center in Bryson City, NC, where hundreds-of-thousands of whitewater rafters and kayakers have been… served since 1972. Horace is survived by his four sons, Horace Pope Holden, Jr., Charles L. N. Holden, Howard Preston Holden, and William Aiken Holden; five grandsons: Isaac, Simon, Oliver, Henry, and Eli Holden; two granddaughters, Mia and Jody Holden; friend, JoAnne Holden; and many more loving family and friends. Services will be held at a date to be determined, please check back for further information.
