Howard L. Meeder, age 100, of Gibsonia, Richland Twp. , passed away on Monday morning, December 10, 2018 at St. Barnabas. Howard and his wife had moved to St. Barnabas Retirement Village in 2009.

Born in Cranberry Twp. , PA on March 11, 1918, he was the son of the late Harry and Angie Beers Meeder. He had served as a Staff Sgt.

in the U.S. Army Air Force during W.W. II. He had flown 31 missions over Germany and was a member of the National American Legion. Howard had worked for the United States Postal Service as a Rural Carrier in Bellevue and Valencia for 37 years.

A Real Estate Broker, Howard had worked for Agnes Nicklas Realty for 24 years. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Realtor’s Association and had built Grand Avenue Commons on Main Street in Mars. He also built and owned The HoDot Spot Restaurant, now Tomato Pie Café in North Park.

He was a past president and secretary of the Mars Kiwanis Club. A longtime member of the Mars United Presbyterian Church, Howard was a man of deep and abiding faith and touched many lives during his time serving as an Elder, Deacon, Choir Director, Choir Member, Soloist and Sunday School Teacher. Howard cherished time with his family and friends and gatherings around the dinner table, the piano and the bridge table were some of his greatest joys.

Surviving are two sons, Donald Meeder and his wife, Joan and their three children, John, Cathrine, Emily and her husband, Nick, and John Meeder and his wife, Anne and their two children, Ashley and Benjamin. Eldest son Robert preceded him in death, but he is also survived by Robert’s son, Joshua and his son, Christian, and also Rob’s daughter, Jessi and her husband, Rob. He is also survived by his wife’s brother, Thomas Dewitt Kennedy and his wife, Pam.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Jean Kennedy Meeder, who he married on June 5, 1946 and who died on October 11, 2013, and by son, H. Robert Meeder and by his brothers, Roland, Clyde and LaVerne. Friends will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA 16046. Burial will be in Dutilh Cemetery, Cranberry Twp.
