Hubert Hinote December 15, 2018 Share this obituary Local Florists Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Hubert Hinote was born in Summerdale, AL on September 20, 1933 and passed away in on December 15, 2018 in Fairhope, AL. He graduated from Robertsdale High School in 1951. After high school he left Baldwin County for over 50 years and returned in 2002 to Fairhope, AL.

During those 50 years he attended Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry-dock apprentice school, obtained a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Hubert worked for DuPont in Kinston, NC as an engineer for three years. Then he taught Industrial Engineering at Virginia Tech for three years.

Later, he went to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and taught for one year in the Business College as an adjunct professor. He completed all the courses for a PhD in Economics. Then he began his career at TVA in 1967 and retired in 1999.

During those 32 years, TVA loaned him to ORAU (Oak Ridge Associated Universities). He spent a year with the United Way of Knoxville, spent two years with UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) in Vienna, Austria, where he developed an environmental program for that organization. Back to Knoxville… in 1989 TVA loaned him to a consortium of 8 federal and state agencies for the last 10 years where he officed out of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The focus of that work was environmentally sound economic development in the southern Appalachian Mountains. Hubert was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Ann Hill; brother, Sam Hinote. He is survived by his wife, Diane Penn Hinote of Fairhope; children, Greg Hinote of Nashville, TN, Lora Ottolini of Knoxville, TN, Lisa Cornett of Woodstock, GA; 6 step children; 5 grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; brother, Jim (Sherry) Hinote of Silverhill; sister-in-law, Ren Hinote of Montrose; 1 niece and 2 nephews; other loving relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Colony Cemetery.
