Hubert Smith July 19, 1941 – March 22, 2019 Hubert George Smith, 77, of Cedar Hill, Texas, died Friday, March 22, 2019. He was born July 19, 1941 in Hardy, Arkansas, the son of Jim and Theresa Smith, who preceded him in death. Hubert married Caroline Elaine Kent in Hardy in 1963 just before he departed to serve in the U.S. Army.

They were a perfect couple whose good-natured banter telegraphed their intelligence and mutual admiration in an exemplary relationship. Soon after his return from the military, they moved to Memphis where he worked for Schilling Motors as an automotive mechanic for many years. There, Hubert was recognized for his outstanding skills as a mechanic and was given many awards and accolades for his service.

In 1978 he began to work in Dallas for Humble Chevrolet moving the family to Cedar Hill, Texas, in 1979. Soon after that, he opened an automotive repair business, Oak Cliff Brake and Alignment, with his brother, Wayne, where he worked until his retirement in 2011. In addition to his devotion to family and his extraordinary abilities as a mechanic, Hubert was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed countless hours in the outdoors in all kinds of weather.

For all his wonderful qualities, Hubert is worthy of recognition, but his most extraordinary quality was his remarkably humble sense of service to his fellow man, a devotion that can be traced from the fine example of his parents, Theresa and Jim, whose philosophy of helping others was founded in a deep faith in God. Hubert took their example to heart. Through his work and in his daily path, he found ways to be of help to friends, family, and strangers and was in many ways the embodiment of Christ-like generosity.

For his genuine kindness and warm, sunny spirit, he is deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by many. Hubert is survived by his dear wife of 56 years, Caroline Kent Smith; aunts, Geneva Flora Newsom and Mildred Laverne Davenport; siblings: Gordon Wayne and Norma Smith, Nadine and Jon Bussard, Judy and Stanley Whitson, Jeanie and Billy Wilson; children: Robert and Norma Smith, Rita Beeman and Ian McMurtrie, Amy and Stephen Britton, Bryan and Laura Beeman; grandchildren: Nathan Bredfeldt, Matthew Bredfeldt, Daniel Bredfeldt, Stephanie Smith Robinson, Chloe Britton McClintock, Jesse McClintock, and Frank Britton; great-grandchild, Dexter Robinson; and many more beloved relatives and friends. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at Cedar Heights Baptist Church, Cedar Hill, Texas, under the direction of Jaynes Memorial Chapel of Duncanville, Texas.

Arkansas services are Thursday, March 28, 2019, at New Hope Baptist Church on Hwy. 175 north of Hardy with viewing from 1 p.m. until service time at 2. Burial will be in McCullough Cemetery.

Arrangements are with Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland.
