Hugo “Bud” F. Graper Jr., age 88 of the Town of Larrabee, Waupaca County, passed away Wednesday morning, December 26, at Kindred Hearts in Clintonville as a result of complications following pneumonia. Hugo Graper was born on August 16, 1930 in the Town of Larrabee as the son of the late Hugo and Edith (Volp) Graper. He attended school at the Town of Larrabee School and Clintonville High School, later earning his GED while serving in the army.
After school, Hugo worked at home on his family farm with his parents, brother and sister. He was a proud veteran having served in the army from 1952 to 1954 and has continued to be good friends with several of his “army pals”. He later enjoyed participating in the 2015.
Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He was united in marriage to Beverly (Bev) Defferding on May 18, 1957 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Center Valley. The couple resided on the Graper family homestead, a century farm, in the Town of Larrabee ever since.
Bud was a faithful member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville where he volunteered, often helping with the Lenten suppers with Bev. He was a member of the Waupaca Antique Auto Club and particularly known for driving their 1917 Model T Ford in many parades. Bud and Bev operated a cattle trucking business for Equity Livestock Sales for more than fifty years and enjoyed the social part of the job as well.
Bud and Bev loved polka music and spent more than 35 years as active members of the Jolly Mixers Dance Club. “Uncle Buddy” was known for entertaining his many nieces and nephews when they would come and visit at the farm, known as Pleasant Place. He had a strong faith in his Lord and will certainly be missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include: Sons: David (Mary Caspers-Graper) Graper & Randy (Lois) Graper. Granddaughters: Emily & Allison Graper. A Sister: Verna (Dick) Butt Sisters-in-law: Barbara Graper, Ruth Young, Eileen Defferding.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Graper, his parents, a son Carl, brother Don and brothers-in-law Earl and Leon Defferding & Ron Young. Bud’s funeral service will be held Monday, December 31, 2018 at 11 AM at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville with Rev. Christian Burg officiating.
Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery also in Clintonville with military honors conducted by members of the Clintonville American Legion Post #63, VFW Post #664, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit #63. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established for St. Martin Lutheran Church.
