Obituary for Iris Jeanette Osborne Poore Iris Jeanette Osborne Poore peacefully left her earthly home Sunday, December 30, 2018 after brief illness. She was born in 1936 and was the daughter of the late John and Myrtle Osborne of Fort Mill SC. She attended Fort Mill High School where she graduated and received the award of Most Dependable which she lived out every day of her life.
She married John Rayford Poore in 1956 after he proposed to her at the ticket window of the busy Center Theater one Saturday night. She said yes, and they enjoyed 39 years together. They spent some of their happiest years together in Warwick Rhode Island where she was known for her famous Southern accent.
Iris loved to travel and spent her retirement years traveling with Clark Tours and various groups. She made her last long trip to a place she had always longed to go, Ireland. She loved to sew and made clothes for her daughters growing up as well as many of her own clothes.
She was a meticulous seamstress and for years did alterations for people in the area with her business, Seams Sew Fine. She was very active in her Grandchildren’s lives and spent many years being active in anything they chose to do. She worked for many years at Fort Mill Telephone Company and retired from The Bank of Chickamauga.
In her later years, she was very instrumental in the running of her daughters Greenhouse, in Chickamauga, doing every job asked of her for over 10 years. She is survived by her daughters, Joan Jones of Chickamauga and Lynn Moore & her husband, Greg Moore of Ooltewah. Grandchildren, Andrew “Gib” Jones & his wife Katie, of Ft.
Oglethorpe, Zachary Jones & his wife Chelsey, of Goldsboro, NC and Taylor Shook of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by her brother Donald (Jane) Osborne of Thomasville, NC and many nieces & nephews. They will all miss her quick wit and wonderful cooking.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at LaFayette Memory Gardens, with Bro. Ted Verville officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday and prior to leaving for the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Morning Pt. of Greenbriar Cove in Collegedale and the many attentive caregivers at Hearth Hospice for their love and devotion to Mom’s care during these last few months of her life. In lieu of flowers, Ms. Iris requested donations be made to your favorite charity.
