Obituary for Irvin R. Lucas Jr. Irvin R Lucas, Jr 1934 – 2018 Irvin R Lucas, Jr., age 83, passed away peacefully at LaGrange Hospital due to complications of diabetes and congestive heart failure. He was born in Washington, D.C. on August 15, 1934 to Irvin & Emma Myles Lucas. Irvin was educated in the Washington, D.C. school system, where he graduated from Phelps Vocational High School receiving an aircraft mechanics certificate and achieving the rank of Lt.
Colonel as a ROTC cadet, while serving as second in command for the entire district. After a year in college at NYCC, he enlisted in the US Air Force as an aircraft mechanic, deployed to Africa & Europe defending our country during the cold war as an aircraft crew. While traveling through Chicago on his way to Rantoul, IL, he met the love of his life, Mary Wheeler.
After serving 5 years in the Air Force achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant, Irvin & Mary were married at Second Baptist Church in a double wedding with Mary’s sister, Ruth on October 18, 1958. After they were married, hey moved to Irvin’s hometown of Washington, D.C. where they had 2 children & he joined the US Postal Service, while obtaining his drafting certificate at night using the GI Bill. In 1969, they decided to move the family to Mary’s hometown of LaGrange, IL where Irvin worked for Commonwealth Edison in the drafting & design group until he retired in 1991.
In 1996 they moved to Plainfield, IL where he lived until he was called home on May 26, 2018. Irvin survived the passing of his sister, Delores Pope, father, Irvin Sr, and mother, Emma. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, his son & his wife, Irvin III and Kim, his daughter and her significant other, Sharon and Carl, and five grandchildren, Irvin IV, Aaron, Lucas, Jessika, and Sean, and his three nieces Karen, Denise, and Leslie.
