Obituary Isabel Monica John was a vibrant, energetic and loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She never missed an opportunity to make a joke because she loved to laugh. She passed away quietly on Sunday, March 17, but now her spirit lives on as she looks down on her loved ones and wraps her arms around them.

She was born on May 1, 1929 to Aubrey and Ida Matthias and was one of the magnificent seven. She adored her brothers and sisters. She was an adventurous soul and in 1950 boarded The Windrush to embark on a journey to England to pursue her passion for helping others.

She enrolled in a nursing program and it wasn’t long before she completed the program and became a nurse. She met, fell in love and married George F. McRae. They had two children, Beverley and George.

Her first marriage ended in divorce and she was again desirous of more for herself and her children. In 1967 her sister, Pearl, helped her to discover a new life in America where she and her children thrived. She worked hard in her chosen field and felt a great sense of accomplishment.

She married Willie John in December 1973. They enjoyed traveling to Europe, Canada and many road trips throughout the United States. They settled in Long Island and when they both felt ready to leave the cold, long New York winters they relocated to Royal Palm Beach.

Their new adventures continued as they enjoyed fishing, gardening and other travels. Willie passed away in August 1984 and not a day went by that she didn’t have fond thoughts of their time together. Monica, as friends and family called her, spent time fishing with friends, gardening and loving her family.

She found illness irritating because it kept her from participating in the joys of her life. She left us just a few weeks short of her 90th birthday. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Sidney and Curtis and her sisters, Ruby, Pearl, Joyce and Esther.

She is survived by her adoring children, Beverley and George (Valerie), her granddaughter, Dahra (Jamie) and her great grandsons, Jalen and Jaxon, a host of her favorite nieces and nephews, many grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and friends. Monica’s passing brings great sadness but her unique and indomitable spirit will always remain with us and wonderful memories will bring laughter and joy in the days, months and years to come. She will always be a of inspiration to those she loved and those who loved her.
