OBITUARY Isabel Perez Canales March 23, 1920 – October 17, 2018 Isabel Perez Canales, 98, and Adalberto Nava Canales, 93, were a rare couple. Married 72 years, they died within hours of one another of natural causes. Isabel went to be with the Lord October 17, 2018.
Less than fifteen hours later, Albert joined her on October 18, 2018. The couple married on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1946. They met in 1942 and continued their courtship writing love letters to each other while Albert was serving in the Army of the United States from 1943-1946.
They were truly loving spouses and would do everything together, hearts connected to the end and now in eternity. Isabel was born March 23, 1920 in Conception, Texas to Sara Stillman Perez and Leopoldo Perez. Albert was born on January 4, 1925 in Victoria, Texas to Trinadad Nava Canales and Juan Canales.
They are survived by daughters, Nelda Pena (Richard) and Norma Maxwell (Wayne) and son, Arnold Canales. They are preceded in death by daughter, Alicia Hancock Garcia. They adored their seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Our Mother will be lovingly remembered for her great cooking, family get-togethers and her love of playing poker with family. She loved cooking and made the most delicious Spanish rice and salsa and many other family dishes. She loved shopping at the mall.
Albert was a World War II Combat Veteran. He was with the 35th Infantry Regiment Anti-Tank Company, an Anti-Tank Gunner, and earned the rank of CPL. He fought in the Pacific Theater of Operations of World War II by the Allied Forces of the U. S., its colony, the Philippines, and allies against forces of the Empire of Japan, in the Battle of Luzon, January 9-15, 1945.
The battle resulted in a U. S. and Filipino victory. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Star, the Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 Bronze Star, a Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon and 4 Overseas Service Bars. It has been an honor to have you as our parents.
We will forever cherish your legacy for generations to come. It is with heavy hearts we say goodbye for now, but we know our souls will meet again. We love you Mom and Dad.
Rest in peace. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home at 2:00 pm.
Services will conclude in the chapel. Interment will be held at a later date. FAMILY Leopoldo Perez, Father Sara Stillman Perez, Mother Adalberto Nava Canales, Husband Alicia Hancock Garcia, Daughter Nelda (Richard) Pena, Daughter Norma (Wayne) Maxwell, Daughter Arnold Canales, Son Mrs. Canales also leaves seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren to cherish her memory.
