BARTOW – Mrs. Itsuko “Dina” Phillips, 91, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019 at South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City, FL. Mrs. Phillips was born April 27, 1927 in Tokyo, Japan, and graduated Tokyo High School in 1945 before coming to the United States in the early 1950’s. She retired from the Polk County School Board after a 20 year tenure working the Bartow Middle School cafeteria.

Mrs. Phillips was also a volunteer for the Polk County Board of County Commissioners, an avid line dancer, and attended Main Street Baptist Church in Bartow, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chiyo Matsui, and her husband, Mr. Lina P. Phillips. Mrs. Phillips is survived by her son, Luther Phillips, Bowling Green, FL; daughter, Lynda Phillips, Bartow, FL; two brothers and two sisters all of Japan; grandchildren, Jessica Phillips Gipson and husband Chance, Stephanie Phillips Vaughn and husband Danny, all of Fort Meade, FL, Michael Jones and wife Barbara, Lake Wales, FL; Brittney Walker, Winter Haven, FL, Christina Walker, Bartow, FL; great-grandchildren, Riley, Summer, Danny, Lacey, Brighten.

Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 E. Broadway, Fort Meade. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 25, 2019 with interment following in Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Meade.
