Obituary for J. Martell (Marty) Rud Rud, J. Martell (Marty) Age 94 of Minnetonka & previously of Edina, passed away August 30, 2018. His loving wife, Jean, 93, died on Sept 2, 2018. They passed away peacefully at Haven Homes in Maple Plain, MN.
Their 12th wedding anniversary would have been on Sept. 3, 2018. Preceded in death by his wives Lucille Skyberg Rud (52 yrs) & Barbara Parker Rud (6 yrs); parents Martin & Bertha Rud; two sisters Mildred Bolstad & Ihlene Fillingsness.
A graduate of Washington High School and Augustana University, Sioux Falls SD, Cum Laude. Varsity basketball & tennis. Captain of the basketball team, four yr letterman in both sports.
A member of the Augustana Athletic Hall of Fame. Military Service, U.S. Army. 18 months in the European Theater, 3 battle stars.
Battalion Sergeant Major. The majority of Marty’s career was in shopping center mgmt. , beginning with opening Southdale Center & many others in the Twin Cities & Las Vegas, concluding with Lund’s Property Mgmt.
Marty was always a very positive, loving, humorous, tremendous role model & influence on so many. He was a man of faith, dedicated to his family, friends & community. He loved reading, music, history & sports, playing basketball, volleyball, tennis & racquet ball throughout his life.
He was very community minded. Served on many business & community boards: Mt Olivet’s Men’s Club & Church Council, All Sportsman’s Club, MN AAU, Edina Swim Club, Augustana Alumni Council, YMCA, United Way, American Lung Association of Henn Cty, Suburban Ball, O.S.H.A. Review Board St of MN, Powderhorn Dev Corp, Allied Arts Council, Nevada Dev Authority, Int’l Council.
of Shopping Centers, Racquetball Club of Las Vegas, Central Christian Choir, Opportunity Village, Las Vegas Civic Theater, Las Vegas Business Council, Las Vegas, Roseville, & Edina Rotary, Edina, Roseville & Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, 50th & France Business Association. Survived by daughters Pam Oelrich, Debbie (Rick) Moehring, Patsy (Greg) Bartley; son Bob (Judi) Rud; sister Benjie Shelton; sister-in-law Elizabeth Drury; brother-in-law Glenn Keller; step daughters Carol (Roger) Rovick, Laurie (John) Forshee; step sons, David (Rose) Tjornhom, Keith (Bette) Tjornhom; grandchildren Amy Girling, Marty Oelrich, Kimberly & Mark Moehring, Peter & Rachel Bartley, Troy & Aaron Rud, Emily Graebner, Jessica Donohue, Tad & Ian Tjornhom, Jen Idema, Stacey Anderson, Dana Callahan, Amy Chapman, Katie Hesek, Sara Izquierdo, Rachel Miller, Ashley Christian; 38 great grandchildren; beloved nieces & nephews & many other dear relatives & friends Visitation Sunday, Sept. 16, 4-7 Washburn McReavy Edina Chapel, 5000 West 50th & Highway 100.
