OBITUARY J Valton Helmers October 25, 1940 – September 15, 2018 J V. Helmers, 77, of Mertzon, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Kemp, Texas surrounded by loved ones. He was born to the late, Edwin and Lorena Bullard Helmers on October 25, 1940 in San Angelo. J served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era.

He married Ann Padgett on December 25, 1972 in Grand Junction, CO. J retired as Chief Financial Officer of GTE after many years. He was a dedicated member of Mt.

Calvary Lutheran Church, Eola for the past seven years. He was a dependable and giving man, always busy. He and Ann enjoyed traveling.

He will be missed greatly but the family rejoices in knowing he is no longer in pain and is with his beloved Ann and Christ now. J is preceded in death by his parents (listed above); wife, Ann Helmers; and brother, Harvey Helmers. Survivors include his daughters, Debra Sams and her husband, Michael, and Linda Cullum; 9 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren and 4 more on the way; brothers, Perry Helmers and his wife, Irene, and Luke Helmers; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

There will be a time of visitation prior to funeral services beginning at 9:00 am on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, San Angelo in addition to an open visitation on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Johnson’s Funeral Home, San Angelo. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am following visitation. Interment will follow immediately in the Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, PO Box 638, Eola, Texas 76937. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories, send condolences to the family, and sign the online guestbook at www.

FAMILY Edwin Helmers, Father Lorena Bullard Helmers, Mother Ann Helmers, Wife Harvey Helmers, Brother Debra Sames and husband Michael, Daughter Linda Cullum, Daughter Perry Helmers and wife Irene, Brother Luke Helmers, Brother Mr. Helmers also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, with 4 more on the way, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends to cherish his memory.
