Obituary for Jack E. Kaufmann M.D. Jack E. Kaufmann M.D., 89, of David City died Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City. A private family burial will take place before the service. A lunch at the city auditorium will immediately follow the funeral service.

Memorials: St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Future Generations Foundation or Donor’s Choice Jack Edward Kaufmann was born October 30, 1928 to Herman and Louise(Moersen) Kaufmann in Columbus, NE. He attended Columbus grade school and graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus in 1946. Jack served in the US Army from 1946 to 1948 and was stationed in Korea.

When he returned, he attended Doane College in Crete, NE and graduated in 1952. Jack then entered the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha and graduated in 1956. After completing a year of research at the medical college he completed an internship at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

He then moved to David City and started his medical practice in 1958. Jack retired after 41 years as a family physician in David City and Butler County. He married Peggy Thompson in June of 1955.

Three children were born to this union. Dr. Jack and Peggy have been married for 62 years. He has been a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church in David City for 59 years.

He served as a Past Lay Leader, Communion Steward, and devoted member. He served on the David City Public School Board for 9 years. Jack also served on the Public Health Board for many years.

He received the Community Patriots Award in 1995 and was the founder of the David City Freedom Ringers. Jack was the bell ringer for the Salvation Army, Red Cross, and community charities. He also honored the fallen servicemen by ringing the Freedom Bell at military services in Nebraska and surrounding states.

Jack enjoyed the love, kindness, and friendship of his Lord, his family, his friends, and his patients. He enjoyed grocery stores and walking in parades. He believed that God loves us, and is with us and wishes us well.

Jack is survived by his wife: Peggy; children: Susan (Chuck) McLaughlin of Omaha, Ann (Rodney) Thiemann of Blair, and Peter (Sherri) Kaufmann of Elkhorn; 11 Grandchildren: Aaron McLaughlin, Adam (Erin) McLaughlin, Andrew McLaughlin, Ben McLaughlin, Jason Thiemann, Amy (Carlos) Thiemann-Leal, Sarah (Tom) White, Seth Thiemann, Tyler (Nicole) Kaufmann, Nicholas Kaufmann and Jake Kaufmann; and 2 Great-grandchildren: Mabel McLaughlin and Theodore Kaufmann.
