Obituary for Jack Gannon Jack Gannon, 88, of Hico, WV passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Beverly Jean Gannon and his parents Edward (Ted) and Stella Mae Gannon. Jack was born in Yolyn, WV on June 18, 1930.

Jack served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1950. Upon leaving the Navy in 1954, Jack moved to Oak Hill and operated Gannon’s Esso (Exxon) until 1972, after which he became Park Superintendent of Fayette County Park in Beckwith, WV until 1992. Jack was an avid outdoorsman, an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America and stayed active in scouting as a Scout Master in Oak Hill from 1956 to 1972.

Jack enjoyed whitewater rafting with his good friend, Jon Dragan and was among some of the first to ride the Gauley River. He was appointed Sheriff of Fayette County in 1980 to serve out the unexpired term of the previous sheriff. Jack is survived by his children James (Tina) Gannon of Hico, WV along with Jim’s son Dewayne of Oak Hill; Norman Werley of Fairbanks, AK and her son William (Leanne) James; Nancy (Rick) Madrid of Albuquerque, NM and their sons Pepper and Jacob; and John Gannon of Beckley, WV.

In keeping with Jack’s wishes he was cremated. A Memorial Service celebrating Jack’s life will take place Thursday, September 20th at 6:00 pm at High Lawn Funeral Home in Oak Hill. In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a donation in Jack’s memory to Hospice of Southern WV.
