James Blanton Schwantes, Jr., age 71, of Hazel Green formerly of this area, passed away Monday, January 21, 2019. His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Etowah Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Steve Bell will officiate. Music will be provided by Pat Merchant. Pallbearers will be Rodney Blackmon, Roonie Blackmon, Steve Tate, Keith Snead, Josh Sauls and Derrick Rogers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Blackmon and the Stand-Up small group of Flint River Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Marsh Schwantes, children; Brian Schwantes and Steven (Leia) Schwantes. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Blanton (Irene) Schwantes, Sr., sister; Debbie Howard, infant son, grandson; Andrew Cole Schwantes and daughter-in-law; Tiffany Snead Schwantes.
