Jim was born to Frank Boyd and Bernice Linehan on January 25, 1945 in Moscow, Idaho.

He attended school in Pullman. While living on the Boyd family farm, Jim grew up with his two older siblings, John Boyd and Joyce Main (Palouse). At the ripe age of 15, dressed in his best, Jim hopped on the school bus, telling his family it was “career day at school” and returned that night a married “man”.

From this marriage came a stepson, Tony Haynes, and a little girl, Jamey Boyd (Molitor). Three years later, Jim enlisted in the navy, granting him the opportunity to travel the South Pacific. Here, he acquired all of his signature tattoos.

While in Michigan, with one of his navy buddies, Jim met the love of his life, Ellen Kay Roberts. They were married in Manistique, Michigan on October 5, 1967. After spending a short time in Michigan, Jim and Ellen moved to Colfax, Washington, with his step-son Mike Graphos, and son Jody Boyd.

In Colfax, Ellen and Jim welcomed their daughter, Bridget Boyd (Harazin). Jim worked as a farm hand and for McGregor’s before landing a job as Colfax’s very own Coca-Cola Cowboy. It was during these years that Jim was best known as an avid pool-shark, his love for country music, bowling tournaments, and occupying the pitcher’s mound for the Hyde Out softball team.

With his trademark laugh, Jim was truly the life of every party. Together, Jim and Ellen spent their days hosting parties, shopping, and grabbing lunch at McDonald’s; they were the best of friends. In their later years, they adored spending time with their grandkids and great grand-kids (10 grandchildren, 11+ great grandchildren).

A highlight in their lives was supporting their grandkids in all of their academic, and athletic endeavors. Poppy, you were a blessing to us all and we will love you forever. Go rest high on that mountain, Coca-Cola Cowboy.

There will be a joint celebration of life for Jim and Ralphie at the Colfax Golf Course on Friday, June 14th at 5:30PM.
