II Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV) James Clyde Covington was born September 8, 1927 in Hamlet, North Carolina. He was the beloved son of late Carl and Odessa Covington.
He departed this life on June 16, 2018, while in the care of his eldest daughter in Pennsylvania. Raised in a Christian home, James Clyde was educated in the Public School system in Hamlet, North Carolina. James Clyde moved to New York at age 17 where he continued his education attending a Trade School Program in Brooklyn, New York.
James Clyde believed in hard work and started working selling Newspapers and making Women’s’ Hats. He later was employed as a checker cab driver for many years. After several years of employment driving checker cabs, he purchased a Medallion cab and became an entrepreneur as an independent cab driver.
He retired and moved to Orangeburg, South Carolina in May of 1987. In 1954 he met the love of his life, a devoted Christian woman, Daisy Mae Cokley . They married in 1955 and from this union were born three daughters.
He was dedicated to his faith in God, his wife and his family. He enjoyed traveling, taking cruises and fellowshipping with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by: Stephane Bumpers (daughter); Siblings: Carl Covington, Jr., Mattie Julia Brown, Sarah Harriet Covington, Bettye Geneva Denman, Marion Grace Stewart Mendes, and Heddy Elizabeth Covington.
Memories of James Clyde and the legacy he leaves will forever be cherished by his by wife of 63 years; Daisy Covington; Daughters: Marilyn (Alberto) Perez, Viola Covington; Grandchildren, Michael Tucker Bumpers Jr., Isa (Gavin) Simmons, Reve’ (John) Quinonez, Aaron (Andrea) Perez and Leonard Terry Washington, Jr.; Greatgrandchildren, Michael Tucker Bumpers III, Chace Myles Simmons, Analena Sofia and Benico Alberto Quinonez, Aniyah Inez Perez and Avery James Perez; Siblings, Doris Vivian C. Covington, Odessa Lenora Kelley, Shirley Marie (Robert) Byrd, David Curtis (Darleen) Covington, Minnie Pinkney and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends.
