Obituary for James E. Bowers James E. Bowers, age 80, of Orrville, died Friday, June 29, 2018, at his residence in Orrville, following a long period of declining health. Jim was born on March 17, 1938, in Orrville, to the Leo and Martha “Jane” (Christian) Bowers, graduated from Orrville High School in 1956, and then Ashland College in 1960 with a Bachelor’s in Education. He later received his Master’s Degree from Cleveland State University.

He married Penelope “Penny” Kratchen on November 25, 1960, in Orrville. She survives. He worked as a teacher in business education in Doylestown for 9 years and then for Wayne County Schools Career Center for 23 years, retiring in 1993.

Jim was a member of Orrville Christian Church and the Board of the Wayne County Federal Credit Union. He enjoyed bowling and fishing in his youth, hobby gardening, traveling, golfing and playing cards with his friends. In his retirement he enjoyed antiques and spent nearly 20 years flea marketing.

He loved sports of all kinds, previously coached, and especially enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids when they played. Surviving in addition to his wife, Penny, are four sons, Jim (Regina) Bowers of Orrville, Mitch (Pam) Bowers of Kidron, Todd (Aimee Smith) Bowers of Orrville, and Alan (fiancé’ Kelly McCorkle) Bowers of Estero, FL; eleven grandchildren, Hallie (Sean) Brown of Orrville, Adam (Michal) Bowers of Kidron, Eric Bowers of Orrville, Brittany (Tyler) LaFave of Huntington, WV, Tiffany Bowers of Kidron, Brandon (fiancé’ Ashley Dunham) Bowers of Kidron, Drew Bowers of Orrville, Madalyn (Dan) Kipfer of Orrville, Leo Bowers of Estero, FL, Jake Leonard of FL, Shelby Leonard of FL; four great grandchildren, Ayden, Alydia, and Ashton Brown, and Audriana LaFave; and a sister, Shirley (Chuck) Higgins of Athens. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy Dickson.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Orrville Christian Church, 925 North Elm Street, Orrville, with Pastor John Mulpas officiating. Inurnment of ashes will take place at the convenience of the family at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
