Obituary for James E. Hill James E. Hill, 88, of Carlinville, IL passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Carlinville Area Hospital. He was born October 30, 1929 in Chicago, IL, the son of Gerald R. and Effie Mae Hill. James married Blanche M. Harris June 5, 1952 in Springfield, IL and she survives.

James retired from the US Marine Corps after a 30 year career, joining in 1948 and retiring in 1978. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he operated Creedmoor Sports shooting apparel clothing business in California. James was an expert marksman, he won Silver in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, Italy for international shooting.

He was memorialized in the shooting sports wall of fame in San Diego for his talents. After retirement from the family business, James and Blanche traveled various places throughout the US. They then returned to Carlinville to live.

James was a long standing member of the American Legion and enjoyed instructing young adults on marksmanship and shooting safety. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gerald R. Hill, Jr., and son, James (Jimmy) Hill. James is survived by his wife, Blanche Hill of Carlinville, IL, daughters; Marsha (husband Clyde) Mitchell of Oceanside, CA, Sue Hill of Carlinville, IL, son, Matthew (wife Brenda) Hill of Lake Charles, LA, and 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at a later date and time for James at Bethel Ridge Cemetery in Atwater, IL. Memorials may go to the Carlinville American Legion Guy Baird Post 554.
